Jail Weddings are premiering the 5th video from Love Is Lawless for their good ol’ desperation anthem “Somebody Lonely”, filmed at the Highland Park Legion Hall and features an all-star cast of typical L.A. incest. Keep those peepers peeled! Directed by Lauren Everett.

I missed seeing the video when it was first released although all my friends were talking about it. I was dealing with a crisis at work. A computer glitch, I believe, not malicious malware or deliberate employee mischief, didn't record a large order of paper towels and dispensers plus other paper products and janitorial supplies for a repeat customer who was in the final stages of a complete renovation of their convention center. The opening was to be less than a week away and the dispensers had to be installed and all paper goods, toilet paper, tissues, and multi fold hand towels stocked. And they obviously needed the janitorial supplies for the final cleaning. So I had to scramble like crazy. We were successful in assembling the order and shipping it by an overnight truck, but it was tight.

Johnny O’Donnell and Sacramento Post Video For ‘Loose Cannons’

Posted August 19, 2011 in News

Johnny O'Donnell and Sacramento are premiering their latest video today for their song "Loose Cannons", paying homage to the dark, often seedy glamor of Hollywood's Golden Era. The song is culled from their new EP release, Masquerade.

Wildly inventive songwriter Johnny O’Donnell writes songs as cleverly restless as himself. Having leapt in recent years from rural Louisiana to Seattle to South Korea to currently settling in Los Angeles, O’Donnell pens brilliantly skewed classic pop songs that likewise shift and morph from one style and sound to the next. His talents as a composer and storyteller echo those of legends like Paul McCartney, Harry Nilsson and Elliott Smith.

Johnny O’Donnell and backing band, Sacramento’s sophomore EP, Masquerade, gives the Golden Era of Hollywood the full cinematic treatment on a tripping journey amongst the relics of glamour, adventure and globetrotting that once made entertainment immortal.

Where there’s syrupy romance, a haunting mystery, a haughty swagger and an amusement park’s worth of harmonic twists and turns, you’re probably in the company of Johnny O’Donnell & Sacramento.

New Amanda Jo Williams Music Video for ‘All The Mountains’ Featuring a Game of Tribal Basketball

Posted ⋅ May 10, 2010

Love and basketball go head to head with freak country folk in Amanda Jo Williams’ new video, “All The Mountains.” The opponents appear wearing leather pants and smoking cigarettes but that doesn’t intimidate Amanda Jo and her dirty-fouling partner. Amanda Jo was kicked off her high school basketball team for talking back, but this is street ball, a game for warriors… with an uplifting soundtrack.

“‘All The Mountains’ was written in London when I was there for modeling and it’s a love song,” says Amanda Jo, who while on another modeling shoot here in LA recently had a vision of a tribal basketball game. “The crazy fan on the sidelines is actually my biggest real-life fan, Gary. He happened to be in town so he got to be in the video. ‘All The Mountains’ is one of my most favorite songs I’ve written. I can sing it then and I can sing it now and still feel it. It’s about love but it’s also about being in an enlightened way.”

Amanda Jo Williams ‘Yes I Will, Mr. Man’ Record Release Show This Saturday

Posted ⋅ March 22, 2010

L.A. Record + White Noise + Metl Reserva Especial present Amanda Jo Williams’ record release show at the Echo Country Outpost, where we will be celebrating the digital re-release of Williams’ 2006 album, Yes I Will, Mr Man.

Yes I Will, Mr Man is a romp in the woods with moonshine-soaked hillbillies fighting for love and the American dream. A banjo this time, a dancing percussionist next time, Amanda Jo notably has a musician surprise or two at each performance.

For March 27, she’ll have two stand-up bassists, a rhythm section, and, as always, the inimitable guitarist 5-Track, whose guitar howls and coos like a wolf on opium. The show gets even better with glam folk band He’s My Brother She’s My Sister, story-telling dreamer Henry Wolfe, as well as Woodstock folk artist and legend Paul McMahon, who taught Williams to play guitar, and the wild stomping Matthew O’Neill. Free tequila by Metl Reserva Especial.

White Noise to Re-Release Amanda Jo Williams’ 2006 Album, ‘Yes I Will, Mr. Man’

Posted ⋅ February 15, 2010

White Noise is excited to announce that we will be re-releasing Amanda Jo Williams‘ 2006 release, Yes I Will Mr. Man this spring.

When Yes I Will Mr. Man was first released, Coke Machine Glow gushed “This is unequivocally the best country album I’ve heard in years. I get just as much pleasure out of it as I get from Emmy Lou Harris or Gram Parsons or (gasp) Johnny Cash.”

Learn more about Amanda Jo from the interview she did with L.A. Record back in August 2009

Amanda Jo Williams – Yes I Will, Mr. Man

Release Date: March 16, 2010

Yes I Will, Mr. Man was recorded in Woodstock, NY, on 18 secluded acres of beautiful Catskill forest, in two days. A lot of the songs were inspired by love, even the fiery political ones are driven by being in love.—Going all the way out to New Mexico because he said, “If you’re ever in New Mexico, look me up.” Going all the way there to Truth and Consequences and back in a rusty pick-up truck with a few screws loose. You can hear it in the rattling, bumpy drums and creaking guitar chugging along this wild ride. The energy. It’s rabid country music played by skilled, risk-taking musicians. Williams sings loudly. She slurs and cracks with the charred inflection of a cartoon commander from the South wearing fatigues and war paint to the grocery store, fighting for freedom in the mundane everyday.

“Yes I Will, Mr. Man” is channelled. Williams couldn’t tell you what it’s about. Except for the bridge. She had a beautiful man in mind when she wrote the bridge, but that’s not really important. “Ohio” was written in Brooklyn thinking about love, Amanda’s ever-present muse. She likes Vietnam. Her daddy was in Vietnam. She likes camouflage and hiding in the woods. “All The Mountains” is a love song about a cold, confident Gemini’s swagger, written during a modeling job in London. In “Nobody Can Love You Like I Do,” Amanda imagined a woman trying to get her power back after a relationship. She’s getting strong. She’s getting there. Williams offers her politics on “Just Because The Rains Don’t Fall In Texas” and “Hey Hey Hey Hey,” as she proclaims, “I am living, I am living like a wild woman!” She’s more the spiritual type, but Yes I Will, Mr. Man captures Williams getting radical, scratching her back against American conventionalism, real-life force of nature, ready to take on the world with an accent thick as bacon. Have moicy!

Posted October 26, 2010 in News

Johnny O’Donnell’s New EP ‘Korean Debutante’ Is Out Today

Posted October 19, 2010 in News

"Korean Debutante" the new EP from Johnny O'Donnell is out today digitally on all the major digital retailers (iTunes, Amazon and eMusic, plus whatever other services you might use) and is set to serve up a heaping spoonful of powerful fidelity and classy strangeness to all those who are ready for an escapist thrill and are tired of clichéd sonic drones and undeserved kitsch.

Korean Debutante

Johnny O’Donnell is a man about town. He lives in Echo Park, California and carries his thoughts around like a song rider rather than a songwriter. When he’s not at home skipping over feral cats, he walks the streets alone, looking for a place to grab a drink or, if the night is spruce, a fancy bite to eat. His music bashes away toward a tender triumph that everyone loves, but nobody seems to try anymore. It’s experimental in creation and as smooth as a Brandy Alexander in delivery. While his foresight seems as far-reaching as the future of music is unresolved, he lets the beans drop rather than spill. This is accomplished by a melodic post-lounge persona, whose lyrics seem time-tested at birth. These faux-fables give clues about the future he sees simply by making you smile, but they’re disguised as anything but love songs.

The Blank Tapes featured in Kraft “Sonho De Valsa” commercial airing in Brazil

Posted in: Blank Tapes ⋅ News ⋅ January 25, 2010

Check out this commercial for “Sonho De Valsa” chocolates from Kraft Foods featuring The Blank Tapes song, “Listen To The One“, that is airing now in Brazil.

Sonho de Valsa is one of Brazil’s best-selling bonbons. Chocolate and a thin wafer layer hold a creamy cashew filling in this traditional candy, launched in 1938 by Lacta (later purchased by Kraft Foods).

When Sonho de Valsa (meaning “Waltz Dream”) first hit the market, bonbons were a woman’s thing in Brazil. The company changed the wrapper and invested in marketing campaigns to encourage men to share Sonho de Valsa with their girlfriends. In recent years, advertising for the candy has still focused on romance.

Sonho de Valsa is sold individually and in bags or boxes all over Brazil. It’s used in recipes ranging from pies to drinks.

The Blank Tapes “Home Away From Home” Leaks!

Posted March 2009

As we finish up getting The Blank Tapes new album pressed up and sent it out to various folks, we thought, why not give it away to the real folks… you.

For the next 30 days we’re giving away The Blank Tapes new album, Home Away From Home, in pretty much every conceivable digital audio format there is, right here. And if you feel so inclined, the album is also available for Pre-Order on CD and LP (coming soon), and is also available on iTunes, eMusic, Amazon MP3, etc.

Look out for The Blank Tapes playing up and down the Pacific Northwest in April, check out their dates on the Tours page.

After the 25-song double-plus-album Daydreams, Matt Adams and the Blank Tapes return with the all-roaring no-boring full-length Home Away From Home—ten songs of full-band Kinks-plus-Creedence roots-rock ‘n’ roll that sounds like it came out of a roadhouse in Luckenbach, Texas, even though it was recorded on Matt’s very own 8-track in a bedroom in Oakland, California. After three albums, fans know he’s at home playing solo and playing soft, but on Home Away From Home, Matt’s got his Telecaster turned up. When he’s destroying, he’s Lou Reed or Neil Young telling the cops to get lost, and when he’s desolate, he’s Leonard Cohen or Ray Davies wondering how it feels when a heart starts and stops. Home Away From Home is Matt’s Loaded, Matt’s Lola Vs. Powerman And The Money-Go-Round Part 1, Matt’s Rust Never Sleeps or Matt’s Cosmo’s Factory—the kind of album that electric guitars are designed to make.
